On June 11th-13th we had our first Chapter Campout that I was in charge of setting up. Members that were at the campout were Jon & Lynn Lovlein, Mike & Lucy Hubert, Ted Everard, Rick & Anna Verber, Tom & Cheryl Thomson, Bob Meyer, and us Sue & Steve Wicker. This was also our first camping trip in our "new to us" Bunkhouse camper. Sue and I left Thursday afternoon hoping to beat the rain. We made it to Camp Holiday, near Boulder Junction, safe and dry. We started to set up camp with a group of folks, already there, watching us. We discovered we weren't as prepared as we thought. Thankfully Jon jumped in and gave us a hand setting up our add-a-room. Thanks Jon! After setting up we sat at the campfire for a while before turning in for bed.
On Friday, of course, it rained all day! We car pooled into town (some members brought cars and their bikes because of the lousy weather forecast) for breakfast at a nice place in Boulder Junction. The rest of the day was mostly spent chatting in Jon and Lynn's sided screen tent and some time up in the clubhouse watching TV on their computer. (They have WIFI in the campground). Once again for supper we carpooled to Marty's North where I had reservations for the 12 of us. They put us in the Gazebo Room with one big round table. It was a little cozy and we all had a good time along with a great meal!
Saturday it stopped raining long enough for Sue and I to lead a ride on some beautiful roads in the north woods of Wisconsin, through Boulder Junction, Sayner, Eagle River and St. Germain. We stopped along the way at our favorite Ice Cream shop, McKay's, and had Ice Cream. We made another stop at a nice Craft Fair in St. Germain where Cheryl T. found some treasures to bring home. Afterward we headed back to camp to get ready for supper. I was feeling a little under the weather, so Sue took everyone to JJ's Pub & Grub for Pizza or whatever else they wanted in Boulder Junction.Ahhhh but I shouldn't forget to mention the great breakfasts that Jon, Lynn, Mike & Lucy prepared for us all both Saturday and Sunday mornings. They were wonderful! Thanks Guys.
Before we knew it, it was already Sunday morning after another awesome breakfast. Everyone packed up for the journey home.
Even though the weekend, for the most part, was wash out we all made the best of it. The campground has very clean bathrooms and showers along with a very nice club house. The owners were very helpful and friendly as well . I would like to thank all our friends for making the first Chapter GB Campout a great time! Maybe we can make this a yearly event?
Clear Skies and great riding, Steve Wicker
